The steadily increasing research and development activities
in many countries in Waterside Security, which in Europe
also is reflected in the special programme on Security under
EU’s most recently started 7th Framework Programme,
underline the need for structured procedures for
international exchange of information on R & D plans and
results on Waterside Security (WSS).
This was the occasion for a successful conference and
exhibition covering various aspects within waterside
security, which took place 26th-29th August 2008 at the
Technical University of Denmark.
The conference comprised of plenary lectures on Maritime
Security given by representatives from the French Presidency
of the European Union and from the Department of Homeland
Security in USA. Moreover, plenary lectures will be given on
Maritime Domain Awareness and on the Mine Threat to Global
Maritime Security.
A total of 72 papers were presented at the Conference,
with 45 papers from Europe, 22 from Canada and USA and 5
papers from Japan and South Africa.
It is the plan that the next conference for waterside
security, WSS2010, will take place in Italy in 2010. Venue
and dates have to be decided.
